AI Facial Profiling, Levels of Paranoia est une installation qui traite des dérives liées aux logiciels de reconnaissance faciale et du machine learning. Ce projet met en évidence à quel point il est aujourd’hui facile de ranger les êtres humains dans des boîtes en soumettant leur visage à des algorithmes, et évidemment, de séparer le bon grain de l’ivraie selon des a priori idéologiques. En braquant sur le visiteur une caméra en forme de pistolet, l’artiste escortée de son intelligence artificielle, s’avère capable de classer les individus en deux catégories : ceux qui possèdent un haut potentiel dans le maniement des armes à feu et ceux qui ne présentent aucun danger.

The installation AI Facial Profiling, Levels of Paranoia explores abuses linked to facial recognition and machine learning softwares. This project highlights the extent to which it is easy nowadays to pigeonhole people by submitting their faces to algorithms, and obviously, separating the wheat from the chaff according to ideological preconceptions. By aiming the gun-shaped camera equipped with sensors at the visitor, the artist – bolstered by her artificial intelligence – appears to be capable of classifying individuals into two categories: those who have high potential to handle firearms and those who are not a danger to society.
